About

Dorset.

A county in South West England, Dorset is known for its rich countryside and access to beautiful beaches.

It is bordered by Somerset to the north-west, Wiltshire to the north and the north-east, Hampshire to the east, the Isle of Wight across the Solent to the south-east, the English Channel to the south, and Devon to the west.

Agriculture was historically the major industry of Dorset but is now trending in favour of tourism.

With a growing population and plenty of land still available for development, it is a hotspot for land developers looking to start big and small projects.

Dorset’s terrain is diverse, featuring low-lying clay valleys, rocky limestone mountains, and chalk downs.

Because of its geological and palaeontologic significance, the majority of the coastline is included in the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

Notable landforms include Lulworth Cove, the Isle of Portland, Chesil Beach, and Durdle Door.

A portion of the chalk downland known as Cranbourne Chase is located in the county’s north.
